How do you get avatars in Marvel Snap?
Avatars come from the same places most cosmetics come from. Many are built into the General Pool and roll as Collector's Vault rewards alongside their matching card variants at Rare, Super Rare, Amazing, Sensational, and Exquisite tiers. Bundles and the Token Shop drop themed avatars next to paid variants, and the Season Pass ships with one or more exclusive avatars every season. Album tiers reward avatars when you hit specific collection milestones, and LTGM, Conquest, and Promo events grant event-exclusive avatars that usually don't come back. Some older avatars are gated to accounts that were active during their original live-release window and may never return. SnapComplete tags every avatar with its exact source, the vault price when applicable, and links back to the card it belongs to, so you can see at a glance how to pick one up.
How are avatars different from variants in Marvel Snap?
Avatars and variants are separate cosmetics, even when they share the same name and art. An avatar is the portrait next to your name in matches and in the pre-game panel, a variant is the full card art you play on the board. They're tracked independently: owning the avatar does not give you the variant, owning the variant does not give you the avatar, and ownership is one-per-account with no duplicates. Avatars share the same rarity tiers as variants (Rare, Super Rare, Amazing, Sensational, Exquisite, Spotlight, and Ultimate) and the same Collector's Vault price when applicable. SnapComplete pulls live ownership data from synced player collections every four hours and ranks each avatar against its siblings for the same base card, so you can see which ones are genuinely rare versus which are widely held.
How does SnapComplete track avatar popularity?
Every SnapComplete user who syncs their collection and plays tracked matches contributes anonymized equipped-avatar data. For each released avatar we compute the ownership rate across synced players, a rarity rank among siblings for the same base card, and a deck-popularity rate that captures how often owners actually equip it in matches. Popularity is a separate signal from rarity: a rare avatar can still be widely equipped by the handful of players who own it, and a common avatar can sit unused in thousands of collections. Stats refresh every four hours from the crowdsource pipeline, so new releases start to show meaningful numbers within a few days of hitting the live server.
